The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder for providing health care services to women and children in an India rife with superstitious beliefs, social demarcations, gender discrimination and very primitive health care. Her dream was not to start a medical college only, but to establish the Kingdom of God.
From its humble beginnings, CMC, Vellore is today a 2,500 bedded hospital with over a thousand medical doctors, training others to achieve excellence in the fields of education, research and patient care, in the spirit of Christ. CMC has completed 100 glorious years of undergraduate medical education. Presently there are postgraduate and super specialty courses in Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences and Hospital Management.
